Product photos
A product photo shows wherever that product is seen: your catalog, your public line card at /supply/your-org, a buyer's search results, and the order they build from it. A row without one is still orderable — it just looks like a row without one.
Adding or replacing a photo
Open My Catalog, expand the product, and use Add photo (or Replace photo) in the Product photo row.
Photos keep their own shape — there's no square crop — so a tall bottle stays a tall bottle. The limit is 8 MB, and JPG or PNG both work. A photo with the label straight on and an uncluttered background reproduces best at the sizes buyers actually see.
You can also manage every image your business has set in one place under Company Settings → Media — company logo, location photos, brand logos and product photos together. It's the same change either way; Media is just the view that shows them all at once.
Who is allowed to set it
A product photo is a canonical fact about the product, like its name, ABV, volume and UPC — not a commercial detail like your price or your stock. Facts belong to the brand; commercial fields belong to you.
That means:
- You created the product, and its brand has no owner on DISTRYB yet. You set the photo, and it
is the one everyone carrying that product sees. You are authoring it provisionally, on behalf of a brand that hasn't arrived.
- You own the brand. You set the photo for everyone, whenever you like.
- You carry a brand somebody else owns. You can edit your prices, stock, listing and states as
normal — but the photo, name, ABV and the rest come from the brand owner. If you save an edit that includes one of those, the commercial part saves and you're told which fields were left alone.
Your own photos, which nobody can replace
The main photo is the brand's. Your photos are yours.
In the same panel, under Your photos, you can add up to 10 images of your own per product — the bottles actually on your floor, the case as it ships, a shelf talker, a pour. Nobody else can change or remove them, and a brand owner claiming the brand does not touch them. They are attached to your listing of the product, not to the product itself.
Buyers see the brand's main image on your line card, with a small +N on the corner when you have added more, so they know there is more to look at.
Use the × on a thumbnail to remove one. Removing frees a slot; at 10 the Add photo button tells you so rather than failing after the upload.
What happens when the brand owner joins
This is the case worth understanding before it surprises you.
While a brand is unclaimed, the photos you set are the defaults for that product across the platform. When the brand's owner joins DISTRYB and claims the brand, authority over those facts moves to them — and the photo they set replaces the provisional one, everywhere it appears, including on your catalog and your line card.
That is the intended behaviour, not a bug. It's how a brand ends up with one consistent image across every distributor who carries it, instead of a different photo per seller. Your prices, stock and listing are untouched: they were never the brand's to set.
If a brand owner replaces an image you added and you think theirs is wrong for a product you carry, message them — the brand's page links to them, and it is their call.
Your own photos are not affected by any of this. If you have added photos under Your photos, they stay exactly as they are when a brand owner arrives, claims the brand, and changes the main image. That is the point of keeping them separate: the brand gets one consistent image everywhere, and the work you did photographing your own stock is still yours.
If the photo doesn't appear
- Give it a moment and reload — an upload is replaced in place, and a browser will happily show you
the cached old one.
- Check you're looking at the right variant. A photo is set on the product, and every size of
that product shares it.
- If it was refused, the message says why: too large, an unsupported file, or a facts edit on a
brand somebody else owns.
